ドライブイン映画の代わりに、新しく映画を楽しむ方法として２００２年に人気が出た屋外映画館がカリフォルニアで5月から8月の間開かれる。屋外映画館いくつか会場がある中で、シネスピアではファンの投票により上映される映画が決まる。そして映画の前と後にはDJによる音楽が流れる一方、地元のバンドによる生演奏が楽しめるところもある。会場により食べ物屋台があるところ、自分達でワインや食べ物を持って行くところ、アルコールのもちこみが禁止されているところなど様々だ。
